Women have been pictured for centuries in artworks created mainly by male artists. Art history, and the market, is filled and driven by personalities such
as Jeff Koons, who used reflective spheres in his Gazing Ball series of works.
Mirrored spheres have been added to copies of art pieces by old masters -
exclusively men, where women were merely the object of the imagery.
As a woman and an artist facing the realities of the art world, I address intimidating and objectifying gaze and the way women are portrayed, and seen in the art world and the world in general. Reflecting the environment and the viewers themselves, I draw the observer into this dynamic.
